Re: Blackberry stops on startup

Hello!

I recommend that you attempt to boot into Safe Mode:

  • KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode

It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.

Good luck and let us know!

Re: Blackberry stops on startup

How many times have you tried? How many variations from the KB have you tried? I recall that the first time I tried it took about 5 tries for me to figure out the proper sequence.

If you cannot succeed, the next steps will be very drastic, and will wipe all data from your BB. I'd imagine you prefer to not do that unless absolutely necessary?

Re: Blackberry stops on startup

I'm on OS5 so can only do 1st KB mode which is "remove battery>reinsert battery>wait for notification red light to go off the press/hold/release ESC key I tried 50 times if not 200 now so give me another method I don't mind wiping phone clean as long as it works

Re: Blackberry stops on startup

You misunderstand...what I was suggesting was varying from what the KB says...press the ESC at a different time, hold it for a different time, etc. The first time I tried, I had to vary from what the KB said in order to get it right.

If you want to lose everything, then these methods might work:

Please keep in mind that, at this internet distance, I can guarantee nothing...so I cannot possibly tell you what will or will not work. For instance, if it's a hardware problem, then there's absolutely nothing I can do to help...nor truly diagnose, for that matter.

Good luck!

Re: Blackberry stops on startup

With the safe mode method, how long and at what time did you press ESC key? The PC method too complicated plus I don't have internet or CD

Re: Blackberry stops on startup

Per the knowledge base article:

To start-up a BlackBerry® Storm™ and BlackBerry smartphones running BlackBerry Device Software 4.6 to 5.0 in Safe Mode, complete the following steps:

  1. Remove and reinsert the BlackBerry smartphone battery.
  2. When the red LED (Light-Emitting Diode) goes out, press and hold the Escape key until the loading screen appears then release the Escape key.
  3. When the BlackBerry smartphone boots up the Safe Mode disclaimer listed below appears, clickOK to dismiss the disclaimer.

Once in Safe mode, delete the offending App and then reboot in normal mode.

    Good luck
