Blackberry storm 9530 wont connect to my computer

I have looked everywhere and i cant seem to find any drivers. the blackberry website seems to say that they are on windows update and I can find them but i don't know how to extract them. Basically, i have a custom built pc and windows 7. All usb ports have been tested with other devices. I tried the desktop manager 5.0 and 4.7 and that doesn't recognize my BB. Windows says that i have connected an unknown device.
I tried rebooting the device and pc and removing the battery from the device. All to no avail.
Someone please tell me where to find it, give me steps to get it working, or where to find a self extracting driver. Also I downloaded the RIM blackberry smartphone driver from the windows update site and it still says it didn't install correctly

Re: Blackberry storm 9530 wont connect to my computer

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!

When you install the RIM desktop app, it installs all of the necessary drivers...so there's nothing further to extract and install...so something else must be amiss...see these:

KB19717 The BlackBerry smartphone is not detected as a USB Mass Storage Device when connected to a computer

Also, check that you are using only root USB ports...no hubs (sometimes the front-side ports are hubs...use a rear USB port). And make sure to try disabling USB power management in your system configuration (Device Manager).

Apologies in advance if this is redundant -- there's no way to be sure if you've already seen and tried these.

Hopefully something there is helpful!

Cheers!

Since you've installed and uninstalled several times, it may be that something residual is there and is corrupt. I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista/Win7, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.

1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)

2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:

  • KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software

3) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:

  • Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchornizing via USB):
  • KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization

4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:

5) Install DTM to your PC

6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package

Hopefully that will get things going again. You might have to dig deeper into the registry during the clean uninstall -- I've heard from others who had to dig all over the place in their registry to truly remove all traces of anything to do with DTM...and only then could they get a clean install. Painful, I know...but that's what I've heard to work for others.

Good luck and let us know!

Re: Blackberry storm 9530 wont connect to my computer

My beloved M-I-L just upgraded her laptop to Win7 and "lost" her sound and printer drivers.  She has been involved with a back and forth with the fine folks at MS and they are telling her she is not alone and at this point they don't know "why" but that they are looking in to it.

Apparently it is a problem with upgrades to and not OEM Win7.

sdgardne gave you great steps especially as to being logged in as administrator.  This is a carryover from the wonderful folks at Vista....

Re: Blackberry storm 9530 wont connect to my computer

From your latest post, I think that there is nothing wrong with the BB nor with DTM. Rather, something about that PC is the culprit...diagnosing that is waaay outside of the ability to do via this medium.

Good luck!
