Blackberry with or without BIS

Hi,

I haven't owned a Blackberry before but I am planning to get one soon. Have been reading about BIS, BES and I have some questions would like to ask.

Is there any different between BIS, and the normal Data Plan for other phones? e.g. If I am using my iphone, then I change the iphone to a blackberry, is it possible to use the same sim card to access the internet? Such as browser, email checking etc?

How to get a blackberry.net email address? I am planning to get a second hand blackberry, if the pervious user have already register a blackberry.net address with their  phone, can I still get one.

Cheers,

Kay

Re: Blackberry with or without BIS

  1. Well BIS/BES are only for BlackBerry devices. The other data plans are for other types of smartphones (Palm, Windows Mobile, IPhones, etc)
  2. The same SIM cardsshould be able to be used, as long as you're staying with the same carrier
  3. You can register a bb.net email address either through your BIS carrier's website, or through the "personal email setup" icon on a BlackBerry.
  4. The previous owner has call the carrier to release the PIN number from the system before a new user can setup an email account on the device

Any other questions feel free to ask

Re: Blackberry with or without BIS

Personally--I would not recommend using a blackberry.net address... for several reasons

1. You cannot check that email anywhere but on the BB, not web interface if you were to have BB issues.

2. No spam controls.

I would recommend a Gmail account.

Re: Blackberry with or without BIS

So, If i am on wifi, without BIS, can I still access the blackberry branded software, such as BlackBerry email, and BlackBerry browser? Cause I am thinking to get a bold, and the BIS data plan is pretty expensive here.

No, you will never get BlackBerry push email without a BlackBerry Data Plan.

Re: Blackberry with or without BIS

No, you won't. Sort of.

Without a BB Data Plan, you won't have access to BlackBerry services.

Except on Tmobile which has a "feature enabler" to allow PIN messaging for BlackBerrys IF you don't have a BB Data Plan. But it doesn't work over WiFi.

Finally, with the BB Data Plan, you will still get your HotSpot Browser using WiFi.
