Bold 9650 cannot send request for balance inquiry



My blackberry bold 9650 which I bought unlocked and is currently using it on the Digicel network in Trinidad cannot get the balance inquiry or any other request with a # attached to the end. 

Instead of sending a request it goes through as a call.

Any assistance with rectifying this problem would be of assistance.
