Bold 9700 MEP unlock 0 left ...is there a way to "reset" this?

I just bought a Bold 9700 from Ebay, and when I tried to unlock it, I saw the following message:

Enter MEP code (0 left):

(and the code wouldn't work, obviously)

Is there a way to "reset" this so that I could unlock it?

A similar thread is posted here (with no solution):

Thank you!

No, you have 0 attempts left.

The device must be factory unlocked now. you'll need to send the devcie off.

Or get your $$s back from the eBay seller.

good luck.

@JSanders:

Thanks for your response.

Does anyone happen to know the RIMs support link that I can get in touch with BB Tech support? I tried looking on their website, but couldn't find anything.

Thanks in advance.

Oh,

I think I found the answer to my last question:

http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Storm-BlackBerry-9500/Support/m-p/379388

Basically: I have to contact my carrier, then they will escalate to RIMs if they have to.

That is the correct route to take. The problem you might encounter with your carrier is that the device was not purchased from them and their system might not allow "warranty" work on the device.

You may be required to pay for the service and/or shipping charges. If so, you could find it cheaper to just return that device and get your money back and purchase another.

Re: Bold 9700 MEP unlock 0 left ...is there a way to "reset" this?

Yea, good luck. Sorry for the troubles, just one of those things one gets with less than scrupulous sellers. I've bought 2-3 BlackBerrys off eBay in the past and had good luck.

Knowing the questions to ask the observing feedback on the seller is always smart.

Also, there are some "known" sellers of used devices that can be trusted.
