Re: Bold 9780 keeps poping up small clock

To prevent freezing or lagging/slow response on any BlackBerry, the most important practice you can adopt is to be sure to CLOSE applications when you are finished using them.

If you just hit the red "end call" key to go back to the home screen the application actually stays open and running in the background. If you do this repeatedly you will have lots of apps open and consequently your memory will get used up. Lack of memory is the biggest reason your BlackBerry slows to a crawl or locks up. If you get into the habit of actually using the menu key to close the applications this will at least slow down this memory-clogging process. You still may have to do a battery pull or use the "Quickpull" app once in a while when things get slow.

To check what applications are running on your device in the background, press the Menu key then choose Switch Applications. You will see the icons of each application there.

So now, check your applications running in the background. There are commonly four or five applications that will always be running (Messages, Call Logs/Phone, BlackBerry Messenger, Homescreen, and the Browser; there are other third party applications such as BeeJive, and BlackBerry Alerts which will also run in the background which you cannot close if you want them to operate). Make certain that the browser is NOT on an active webpage (open the browser and choose Menu > Close). Close any other applications that do not need to be running (the camera or a game you were playing or Google Maps).

Re: Bold 9780 keeps poping up small clock

I always check to see that I've closed everything & Even with just the 5 regular applications open & a battery pull I continuously get that little clock with a frozen screen. It's very irritating!!! What else could be causing my 9780 to keep freezing? Thanks hey! Smiley Happy

You like have a low device memory situation. Please look at your options > device > status. What is the file free listed there?

154mb free, that's not bad.

When you're closing apps, also make sure the Browser is NOT let open to an active website. Choose the Menu key > Close.

Also, please look at Options > Security > Advanced >  Memory Cleaning, and make sure that is DISABLED.

Re: Bold 9780 keeps poping up small clock

Ok Thanks! I've been making sure for 9 yrs since a bb user to close & exit out of everything & that nothing is left open.

Anyway what is the purpose of Disabling the "Memory Cleaning" bcuz I've looked at all of my bb's & everyone of them has a check mark in the Enable Box. Leaving me to believe that RIM sets the bb's up this way when they are sold to us??? So I would like it if U wouldn't mind if You'd explain to me what it does when Enabled & Not Enabled (Disabled).

But in the meantime, I Don't leave anything Open or Running so I Don't understand why all of a sudden, just this past week, this stupid clock started appearing & Freezing up my bb. And I Don't do a lot of downloading other than open emails that I know are safe.

Thanks again hey for your time. Talk to U soon!

Re: Bold 9780 keeps poping up small clock

Oh, ps... I've unchecked the Enable but it's Not making a difference. Should I do a live battery pull & reboot my bb? Also, I'm constantly cleaning my cache etc so as not to have too much memory used!

K, Thanks!

Yes, do a powere on, battery pull reboot after diabling the memory cleaner.

Memory Cleaner is not needed at all, it does nothing more than give your 'already deleted memory space' an additional security wipe, to higher standards used by the military and goverment agencies.

Re: Bold 9780 keeps poping up small clock

Ok it seems2 be better but the clock still appears but not as often.

So, this Additional Security Swipe (when Memory Cleaning is Enabled) would it prevent Cyber Snoops from seeing peoples text & other messages? Or, are our Messages Deleted well enough, as to Prevent Cyber Snoops from seeing them?

There's just sooo much about the Technical Cyber Universe that I know Nothing about....

Thank You for all your help!
