Desktop software appears to be ok and it recognises the Blackberry and offers the Backup option. Then produces an error message saying: "The backup failed due to an unexpected error. Try backing up your data again. If the issue continues, please contact RIM technical support."
We have reinstalled the software on our Mac and can see the Blackberry device drive in Finder.
Any clues or help much appreciated.

Does the backup process actually begin then fail on a specific stage or fail instantly with the error message mentioned in your post?
