Browser problems

I have a blackberry curve 8530 , i did an update on the phone about a year and a half ago after this update i could not surf the net with my phone. when i clicked on the browser it would bring up a balckberry page giving me tips and other things for blackberry smart phones. and now it tells me to update my phone to 10 OS. yes i have called tech support from my provider about this issue more then once and they were of no help. and i called BB services but they want to charge me 50 bucks to talk to me.( i dont have 50 dollors to jsut through away). now do i update my phone to OS10 or do i jsut deal without haveing internet on my phone. all other featuers like calling, texting, and emailing work on my phone. please someone help.

P.S. the service provider i have, has stoped selling blackberry's so upgradeing my phone is out of the question.

Re: Browser problems

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

First off, OS10 is not compatible with an 8530, so that entire resolution path is not valid.

With a strong carrier network signal (e.g., not merely WiFi), I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):

1) Register HRT

  • KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
  • Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app

2) Delete and Resend Service Books

  • KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
  • If you have no CMIME entry, then skip the deletion
  • KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
  • Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.

3) Reboot

  • With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
  • See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you really have no choice but to again contact your mobile service provider for formal support...consider, you pay them for your services, which makes them responsible for your service-related support.

Good luck!
