Calendar not working

So my calendar will remind me of things that are already scheduled on there, but if I try to open it to set a new appt, or just to look it, it won't open.

And then it freezes the whole system up.

 

Any ideas?

I've turned it on and off.

I've rebooted multiple times.

I've pulled the battery.

After doing any and/or all of them - the phone unfreezes and I can use it again, but still no calendar.

Having the same problem with the same type device.  Any answers?
