just upgraded device and desktop s/w to latest and problem did not go away.
Contacts and Notepad synch just fine.
But Calendar fails:
1) reads all device entries
2) reads all Outlook entries
3) then pops up a message: "Error encountered. Error code - 0x8004fd2b. Check documentation."
4) the log says this: "Internal Error #-725. Translation Canceled!"
Device 8700g, XP Pro, Outlook.
Any ideas anyone?

I would try deleting the intellisync folder and then trying to sync again. This may or may not help. Below are the instructions:

Tamrock777 , Thank you for an easy fix.
Worked like a charm.
I agree that RIM folks could make things easier for us novice users.
Deleting the contents of the Intellisync file was the key.
I'd point out that the process of accessing the Intellisync file is a little more convoluted when one is on an office network, as I am.
Again your contribution is appreciated.

I have been having this same problem with my blackberry curve, and have tried this solution, although I'm unable to locate the file you have mentioned in order to clear it from my hard drive. Please provide further details.

I've had this problem since this summer when upgraded to a Vista 64 PC and to solve had to revert to Desktop Manager 4.2 ... only desktop that would synch my calendars -
This weekend upgraded to a Bold and ran 4.6 [fully V64 compatible @ RIM] and still can't synch my calendar(s)!! >>> tried solution listed here (deleting all in the RIM sync file - but did not work .... ANY FURTHER FINDINGS??? ... I would hate to have to reinstall and use 4.2 for my fancy BOLD ... thanks in advance ...
