Cannot call!

I hope someone here can help me, because I am at a loss. I just got my BB 8700 today and have been successful in setting up the internet and inserting new contacts. I didn't have a data plan, got one, before that I was able to make calls. I have the new SIM card in and can get online and message people, but when i try to call them or my voicemail, the phone makes a beep and the call cuts off. Any ideas???

Call you carrier's support service to know whether the voice mail feature in enabled for your device or not.

It sounds like it's not just the VM according to the post. Where did you get your BB? If it was used previously by someone else who used it for Corp. use, it may have an IT policy on it blocking voice usage. This is just a guess since I don't have much info.
