Cannot connect to server

Hi I have a Blackberry Curve 8520 and I am trying to add an email address to my phone but everytime i click set up new email it comes up with CANNOT CONNECT TO SERVER... Anyone one that can help me i would be most grateful as it is a new work phone and new emails so I can get emails while out and about. Thanks Hen2010

Is this "work email" a BES enterprise email account from your employer?

If so, you will need a device activation from the BES or IT Admin.

Hi no it isnt a "work email" just just a hotmail account as I have just sent up my own bussiness.

On your Manage Connections screen, click on the Services Status.
What is the status of the BlackBerry Internet Service?

Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan enabled on your account with your carrier or mobile provider?

You must, in order to get the RIM push email functions you are looking for, as well as additional BlackBerry data services such as the internet browser, Facebook for BlackBerry, BlackBerry Messenger, and much more.

So, call your carrier and inquire about having the BlackBerry Data Plan added to your account.

I already have and email account on there so i dont understand why it wont let me add another
