Computer not recognizing?

I have two issues here on my 8330.

First one is from day one, when I connect to the laptop, the BB does not show up as a drive at all. All my other phones (not BB's) have shown up as a drive where I can open folders within and drag and drop. Why can I not do this with the BB?

Most recently the device manager is not recognizing my phone either, I plug it in and it shows an error with the USB, saying the device is not recognized, and in the device manager, I have a yellow exclamation mark saying 'unknown device'.

I have researched these issues online and can't find anything that will solve either of my problems and I'm getting extremely frustrated. At this rate, I'm ready to get rid of the BB and go for something like the iphone if I can't get this working properly. Seems to be more trouble then it's worth Smiley Sad

You posted your question in the middle of the night.

Be patient. It's rude to bump a post in less than 24 hours... give one a chance.

Not to mention your snide comments don't exactly encourage anyone (I'll speak for myself, me) to help you.

You want to view the Media Card in the device? See below.

You want to view the file structure of the device? Not possible.

1. Go to Options >> Media Card
(some themes or BlackBerrys may call this "Settings >> Media Card")

2. Check the following settings (if they are not listed this way, then change to reflect the following:
a) Media Card Support: On
b) Mass Storage Mode Support: On
c) Auto Enable Mass Storage: Yes

3. Save the settings and exit

I'm not trying to be rude, it wasn't the middle of the night when I posted from where I'm at, apologies.

All my settings are as you suggested, I was online half the night last night trying to figure this out, nothing seems to work. Mass storage wont help if neither of my computers recognize my device. I have uninstalled and installed the desktop manager a couple times now, still not reading my phone (on two different computers).

I want a phone that will do what it's supposed to, not get mystery glitches that nobody can fix. This is my first BB and I was happy with it for the most part until this happened, and like I said, I was online half the night last night, at different forums, and apparently this is not an unknown problem, many people have had it and I've tried all ways suggested that I found to fix it and nothing has worked, so yeah, if I can't get it to connect to my computer, I'm pitching it and going for a different phone altogether. I don't want to go that route, but I'm beyond frustrated with this.

Re: Computer not recognizing?

thanks!  just did an upgrade (dont know why i'm being prompted all of a sudden?!? im at OS 5.0) anyhoo... since the upgrade, pc wasnt recoginizing the media card.  simple change of option

'auto enable mass storage mode when connected' from no to yes resolved the issue.

also... FYI: on my curve 8530 (from sprint) the OPTION is called MEMORY .. not 'media card'

(for any others who are on 5.0 OS)

thx again!  easy fix! Robot Happy

wow, ok I was seriously not trying to be rude, but it seems like you should maybe take your own advice? Obviously I am new here and did not realize there was a specified amount of time one had to wait before asking again, especially when there seems to be a lot of traffic on this site.

Might want to check your 'tude buddy, I just wanted to get some pictures of my newborn niece off my phone to send to relatives overseas. Already apolgized, not sure what else you're looking for here. This just kind of turns me off this stupid phone altogether, not only does it not work properly, the people who are here to be helpful are just as rude as they're making me out to be. Sheesh.

Hope you don't treat all your new members like this.
