Connection priority for data transfer

[ Edited ]

Hello,

I'm a new Blackberry user, the Bold being my very first device. I'd like to know how it determines the priority of connection to use for data. For instance, both WiFi and GPRS/EDGE are connected and I'm browsing/downloading - obviously it's cheaper AND faster to use WiFi. Will the Bold automatically choose the cheaper/faster option in the presence of both? Is there a setting where we the user can decide the priority?

Thanks,

Colin

P.S.  There are several icons that appear on the device which are not explained in the very limited manual or even the User Guide on CD.  Where does one find such info?

I understand that the device will use WiFi where available.

For the odd icons... can you describe?

Or post a screenshot? Click here to download JL_Cmder for a screenshot of your BB

Re: Connection priority for data transfer

Thanks for the prompt reply!

One icon that is puzzling me immediately is one associated with data or networks.  In the absence of a screenshot, I'll describe it:  it's simply square (just the outline) with two smaller green squares at opposing corners.  I can't find it in any of the provided literature.

I also have a question/problem about bluetooth contact transfer, which I've posted in the category, perhaps you could shed some light here also?

Thanks,

Colin
