Contacts duplicating and triplicating

2 days ago I did a sync with my Windows contacts and ever since my BB storm 9530 contact list has been duplicating and triplicating my contacts.  Some of the contacts are even in there 7 and 8 times. Also the pictures that used to be associated with the contact have changed so now person A has person B's picture and so on.  I also noticed now my calendar (which does not sync since it is the windows calendar) in BB has moved around and duplicated my appointments.  After spending numerous hours on the phone w/ Verizon support they are referring me to the RIM folks....any ideas what is happening?  Ever seen this before?  I will call RIM as a last resort since I can't stand spending all that time on the phone.

Thanks all

Gina

Re: Contacts duplicating and triplicating

Do you have your sync set to allow duplicates? Disable that.

Then, I would suggest you get it all cleaned up in Outlook, exactly as you want it, and then read the how - to below.

Also, do you have numbers stored on your SIM? That can also create duplicates.

If you are having errors in your Calendar or Address Book on your BlackBerry, and you wish to delete the entire Calendar (or Address Book) database on your BlackBerry, follow the directions below. Make certain you have a good copy of your Calendar or Contacts elsewhere, as this procedure will complete delete ALL Calendar entries and/or Address Book entries on your BlackBerry.

1. Open Desktop Manager on your PC.
2. Open up Backup/Restore > Advanced.
3. From Advanced you'll see a split pane screen. The left pane is what is going to be backed up from your device and the right is a list of the currently existing databases.
4. Highlight on the right side your Address Book database (or your Calendar database) and click the arrow in the middle pointing to the left. This will copy the information over and prepare it for back-up.
5. Once the back-up has completed, hit the Clear button at the bottom to erase and clean out the entire address book database (or Calendar database).
6. After it's finished, it will ask you if you want to save the back-up you've created, say yes and check the device to make sure the address book (or calendar) has been properly cleared out. Now, resync the necessary contact information and you should be set to go.

Re: Contacts duplicating and triplicating

Thanks for the info but I do not use Outlook, I am using Windows mail and contacts as well as the Windows calendar.  Also, forgive me on this one but I am so new to BB....how would I know if my contacts were on the SIM?

Yea, I saw that you mentioned Windows address book in the first post and I didn't think I'd need to correct it, all you need to do is the the same thing as mentioned above...just replace where I said "Outlook" with "Windows", etc.

Get ALL the data cleaned up in your Windows Address Book, then clear the database on the BlackBerry and resync.

For your SIM card, open the Address Book on the BlackBerry > press the Menu key > View SIM Phonebook.

If you have entries there, then you have entries there! Either delete them if they are duplicates or move them to your BlackBerry Address Book.
