Curve 8520 SFR Free AZERTY Not proposing French Input Language

Your carrier: Free Mobile (France)

Model info and OS version :   5.0 pack 1096 (v5.0.0.592, plate-forme 5.2.0.64)

My phone will not by any means allow French other than in the voice commands.

I have tried in 4.6 and 5.0 OS

I have tried the loader and the applications adding through the BDS.

The input method file just isn't there!

Can I try installing a different firmware?

Apps and free space

No apps in particular

Re: Curve 8520 SFR Free AZERTY Not proposing French Input Language

When you look at the device while connected to the BlackBerry Desktop Software, do you see French installed or as an options to install? If not, do you see any other languages available?

On your device, is French a language option?

Re: Curve 8520 SFR Free AZERTY Not proposing French Input Language

Hi,

I see almost all other languages: German, Danish, but French... it is very strange.

I see also "Prise en charge du français" in the application loader from the BDS, but it only shows up as voice dictation.

Is this clear enough?

Very strange.

Re: Curve 8520 SFR Free AZERTY Not proposing French Input Language

Salut chris2fr,

as you know Free Mobile is a half MVNO so maybe they did not take enough care in selecting the correct input languages.

I advise you to install another firmware, for example from Orange France. This can be done by installing it on your computer from the following link:

https://swdownloads.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=4C56FF4CE4AAF9573AA5DFF913DF997A

Once the installation is done, you have to make sure you can install the OS on your phone, despite the fact that you are not an Orange subscriber. To do so, using the Windows Explorateur, choose to display hidden & system files, and look for all the files named "vendor.xml" on your computer. There should be between 1 and 3. Delete them.

Then launch the Desktop Software, plug your phone, and do the OS upgrade. This time you should see the Orange OS, and will be able to proceed and select French everywhere.

Tiens-moi au courant.

a+
