Curve 8520 - WiFi not working

Hi,

I have tried everything I have read on forums to get the WiFi connection to work, but I did not succeed:

* resetting the BB by removing the battery

* try different security settings for the WiFi, including disabling security

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: Curve 8520 - WiFi not working

  • Please explain in detail what you're doing, or what you've seen fail.
  • In your Manage Connections screen > WiFi Network, do you see the name of your connected router? A white dash beside the router name?
  • Do you see the WiFi connection logo on the main home screen... it is white or grey?

Re: Curve 8520 - WiFi not working

Hi JSanders,

thanks for the super-quick response!

WiFi is activated on the BB - the icon is there. I see the name from my router when I search for the available connections.

Then I select my connection, enter the passphrase - currently I have WEP enabled - then the BB tries to connect, but then it fails. The funny thing (...) is the connection worked a few times, but after disconnecting from the WiFi connection leaving home, it never gets back working.

I tried WiFi in other locations, with different routers, and it worked, so I guess the problem is in my router (Netgear 834DG), but I have no clue about its nature.

Thanks a lot,

Mirko

Re: Curve 8520 - WiFi not working

I'd suggest you reboot your home router... do you know how to do that?

Normally you remove the electrical connection on the rear of the router and the IN data cable, both for about a minute, replace and the router will reset.

Re: Curve 8520 - WiFi not working

It worked - although it still looks strange to me since WiFi was working when accessed from our 2 laptops. Thanks again!

Re: Curve 8520 - WiFi not working

You're very welcome...

My experience is that some BlackBerry models can be more sensitive to the WiFi signal at times, than a routine laptop.

Glad you got it working.

What do I do if there is a white dash beside the router name?
