Welcome to BlackBerry Support Forums
Are you sure you're in an area where you have a good network coverage Or If signal strenght drops frequently.
Some time our BlackBerry devices may feel warm say a long browsing session , playing games ,countinous download or while charging. If we press and hold the Menu for a few seconds, it will pop up a screen which will show all running programs in the background ,generally five will always there ( Home, BBM, Message,Phone , Browser ) you can always look if any other apps. are running in the background.
We should always try to Close Applications Correctly - Avoid using the End key to close applications as this simply minimizes the application and leaves it running in the background. Instead, press the Menu key, select the Close or Exit option to exit the application.Don't leave your Browser open when not in use.If programs run in the background it will also lead to overheating and also quick battery drainage. Please have a look at those Article I am sure it will help you a lot in overcoming your problems :
KB14320 How to maximize battery life and free memory on the BlackBerry smartphone.
KB31531 : BlackBerry 7 smartphone may feel warm during use
But , if you feel that device heats up more then average then you should visit your Service provider for any assistance.

Finally I was able to isolate the issue after several months.
Even following the tips on the Knowledgebase articles I kept getting from time to time this anoying battery drain issue and the device warming up more than normal for a device in stanby mode.
It's the combination of putting the device in the leather case that has the magnet to automaticaly lock the phone and the device having the multiple screens active.
I began noticing that when the problem happened, after unlocking the device it was always on the "Recent" screen and not on the "All Items" screen. I do not use the "Recent" screen (or any other than "All Items"), so how did it went there?
If the selected icon on the home screen is the leftmost one, while being inserted in the leather case it scrolls to the "Recent" screen while the device activates the lock to request the password the next time it is used. Somehow this makes de device warmup (some kind of processing loop?) and consequently drains all the battery because it is stuck doing something.
I turned off all home screens except "All Items" and it's gone. No more random battery drain.
Hope this helps someone having the same issue.
