Curve 9360 will not update to OS 7.1

I have a Blackberry Curve 9360

I have the latest Desktop Software installed and when it starts it ask me to update my OS to 7.1

I try to Update my device above OS from 7.0 to 7.1 so I can get the Hot Spot option (like I have successfully for our 2 other Blackberries at home) and I get the below error:

"An error has occurred while downloading software for your device.  Please verify your Internet connection or try again later, if the problem persists."

 

I tried updating OS from Blackberry website without the Desktop Software running but get same error and when I try to update from phone only it says OS already up to date.

 

I have even reset phone to factory defaults and tried again but did not work.

I tried downloading just thesoftware

 

9360AllLang_PBr7.1.0_rel2102_PL9.6.0.112_A7.1.0.746_Koodo_Mobile.exe

 

and installing it but also did not work.  I followed steps on this site deleting the vender file etc...

But in the Loader.exe my operating system does not show up even after searching for solotions to this problem and trying what I found.

 

I also tried the stealth mode listed here but no matter have fast I do it my PIN always shows

OS 7.1 has the wifi hotspot which is the main reason I need it as where I live the only internet I can get is through cell service.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

 

The reasons I can think that the OS package was ignored are:

  1. Your BB was not originally manufactured for Koodo (the VendorID is some other carrier), and you did not delete the VENDOR.XML files from your PC.
  2. There is more than one BB OS package installed to your PC
  3. Something is wrong with that particular OS package
  4. The package did not properly and fully download before installing to the PC
  5. There may be more reasons, but those are what come to mind. Hi and Welcome to the Community!

From a PC, you can install any compatible (e.g., for your exact BB Model Number) OS package to a BB via this procedure:

Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC. If that OS package is from a carrier other than the carrier for which your BB was originally manufactured, then delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
  • C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML

Thanks for your reply

 

The phone was originally with Rogers but unlocked and working fine on Koodo

 

I did  go into Control Panel and uninstall all Blackberry software and Device software.

 

I downloaded the newest Desktop software and tried the update from there.

 

When that did not work

 

I downloaded the lastes OS and installed it and it went smoothly.

 

I did delete the Vender file and when that did not work also deleted the Device file but still did not work.

 

Not sure what else to do at this point.

DEVICE.XML is irrelevant (but should not be deleted). But, there are 2 VENDOR.XML files to delete, not just one...please check again.

Thanks again, you were correct I did find another Vendor file and it let me go through the Loader.exe and update so I now have the HotSpot I needed.

 

But in the Desktop Software it still gave the same error but it is done now so thanks again for your help.
