Desktop Catch 22 Can't Install V6 and V7 hangs

Desktop ver 7 would hang at the last Preparing Sync preview stage each time I used it and it took Task Manager "End Program" to get out of it ("Cancel" did not work)..

I tried to uninstall and got an error. I tried to install Ver 6 and get the error that a newer version is install and I have to uninstall it..... which of course I cannot do. I have deleted all the directories I can find that are RIM and removed all Reg enteries there say RIM and even run PCCleaner but I still get the error that I cannot install Ver 6 because a newer version is installed. Nothing appears in Add Remove programs anymore. I am at a complete loss. I have asked at the Rogers and computer stores... no help.

 

Windows 7 running 64 bit on an Acer 7750 I7 machine.

 

Any help or suggestions would be muuuuch appreciated.
