Desktop Installation

Hi,

I'm developing a BlackBerry application and wanted to know if I should support both OTA installation and desktop installation?

Is desktop installation as common as OTA installation?

Thanks!

Re: Desktop Installation

Hi and welcome to the forums!

I would definitely support both. The OTA will be the most popular.

There a lot of users that would prefer having a copy of the app as well.

I like to!

Thanks,

Re: Desktop Installation

Hi,

Thanks for your answer.

I'm not very acquainted with desktop installation.

What do you mean "have a copy of the app"?

What benefits does desktop installation give the user?

Hi,

If you offer OTA only, the user has no copy of the program, just the installation.

You must maintain the record of the purchase as well as the user, so he can reload it when he needs to.

If you offered OTA and the .jar/.cod files the user could install them and be responsible for the program.

I like to have apps that I own available to me without having to rely on a third party.

Here is a manual for desktop manager so you can see how it works.
