Desktop Manager doesn't recognize my phone

I have loaded the Desktop Software v4.7 including Desktop Manager.  When I connect my Bold via USB to my PC, the PC recognizes the new hardware and identifies it as a Blackberry Smartphone.  But when I launch Desktop Manager, it doesn't recognize the Bold, and at bottom left of the window says "Device Connected (PIN): None."

 

I tried switching USB ports and have the same problem.
