Desktop Software Installation Error

I have an AT&T 8310.  When I try to install the Desktop Software out of the box, the installer looks for "BlackBerry7750.msi" file.  I have had the same trouble trying to install v.4.5 which I downloaded from RIM.  I have not been able to locate this file anywhere.  After hitting Cancel many times, it then asks for "DSTUpdateLoaderUSB.msi".  After hitting Cancel many more times, the Desktop Manager loads, but then when I connect my BB to the computer via USB, the software looks for the msi files again and I never get connected.  When trying to uninstall it asks for the same msi files.

I've been struggling with this for months, and would really appreciate some help!

Re: Desktop Software Installation Error

Xandrex,

Thanks for your help, but unfortunately I haven't had much luck.  I used 7Zip to extract the installation files into a folder on my desktop and when I install the software it seems to work.  But then after I reboot, and try to execute the Desktop Software, it appears as though it is trying to complete the install, and windows installer loads and searches again for the same .msi file.   If I hit cancel many times, it looks like the software loads, but then the same issue appears when I plug-in my BB.  What am I missing?

Thanks.

Re: Desktop Software Installation Error

Hi and welcome to the forums!

Lets try this:

Perform a clean un install for the current (and) previously installed DM's This procedure will address the registry etc.

http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB02206&sliceId=SAL_Pub...

Install DM 4.5 form here:

https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22

I have a very similar setup to yours and DM 4.5 has been very stable. I STROGLY urge you NOT to install the version with media manager in it. MM is not stable, and will add another fail point to your system.

When you download the DM, remember that the clean uninstall program will be able to remove it from your system later, so for this install

we won't worry about the temp files.

After install, Reboot the PC, and turn off all firewall and virus checking programs. See if you can successfully backup and sync,

Please write back and let me know

Thanks

Re: Desktop Software Installation Error

Bifocals,

Thanks for your thorough post.  I have gone through all the steps twice, and although the program appears to install without a problem, I still get the error when it tries to load.  I did have one hiccup while following the clean uninstall procedure:  I could not delete the folowing folder, because my access was denied (write protected?):

C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Transaction Manager\ComponentData\Eventlogs

Upon loading DM, windows installer looks for the following files in the following  locations:

BlackBerry 7750.msi       C:\DOCUME~1\kschorn\LOCALS~1\Temp\_is25A\

DSTUpdateLoaderUSB.msi        C:\DOCUME~1\kschorn\LOCALS~1\Temp\ICD1.tmp\

It looks for the BlackBerry file first, then after hitting "cancel" numerous times, it looks for the DST file.  After hitting "Cancel" many times, DM loads.  When I connect my BB via USB, Windows Installer asks for the files again.  It also asks for them when I disconnect the device.

I really appreciate the help, this is becoming increasingly frustrating!

Re: Desktop Software Installation Error

I believe this will resolve the .msi problem

http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB12126&sliceId=SAL_Pub...

I am researching the DSTU problem. Please try the first on the link and see if they are interrelated, I will continue my search.

Ok?
