Desktop Software & Email

I have a laptop running Windows 7 64bit.  I loaded the desktop software yesterday and synched my music from my laptop to the phone, but now when I connect my blackberry desktop software cannot communicate with the connected device now that I try to connect my phone and secondly my email has stopped working since I synched my music yesterday.  I have loaded updated usb drivers and that did not seem to help.  I did turn my WiFi off but that shoud not impact my email.  I'm at a loss as to why my email does not work.  As for the DM not seeing my torch is it b/c I have windows 7 64bit?
