I am running Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit on a DELL XPS 8100 PC.
The latest version of the desktopmanager 6 is 6.2010 (Bundle 21).
The desktop manager is not able to connect to my BB 9780 bold via USB.
It short of partially connects to the device. It is able to display its model, PIN and device software version. However when I go to the organize tab and I press the "Configure settings button" an error message is displayed telling me that the device is not connected.
In the control panel there is a device "BlackBerry 9780".
I have tried various things so far without success
1) Uninstalled/ installed desktopmanager software
2) Tried different USB ports
3) Tried to connect via HUB
4) Reset my 9780 device by removing the battery
When I connect my 9780, the device pops up a menu with 3 choices:
1) mount as USB device"
2) synchronize media"
3) charge only"
I tried 1 and 2, no luck.
I just had the BB 9780 for one day. Without a working synchronize option
I can not use it.
Is there anyone who can give some advice ?

I finally solved the problem. The USB mass storage device failed to install because of a conflict.
The conflict was caused by the software package NTI Shadow&Ninja. After removing NTI Shadow &Ninja and reinstalling the BB desktop software, all the USB drivers installed correctly.
The bold is now recognized by the BB desktop manager. It also shows up as a drive in the explorer.

actually i have the same problem with BB 9780 and Desktop Manager 6 ( 126.96.36.199 build 42). The only difference to the posting before is that my OS is WIN XP and i also tried the 3rd option "charge only" on the BB.
Interesting is that i can connect the same device with a Macbook i am using and the MAC OS X version of desktop manager without any problem, so it seems to be problem with the WIN versoin of desktop manager.

This may be way too late for some people but I had same connectivity issue with the Bold 9780 and my Lenovo Thinkstation.
I had a mass storage problem originally- WD Book had to be removed- THen I had connectivity with no errors but the Desktop SW would not see my BB.
Then I found this post.
I, too had NTI Ninja and Shadow installed. I uninstalled Ninja because I never used it anyway. No reinstall of BB Desktop was required, just a reboot.
I still have NTI Shadow installed (I do use that)
