Re: Device Software upgrade for AT&T OS 4.5 for Blackberry Curve 8310 Device

I wouldn't recommend downloading anything that was not made for my phone or supported by my carrier. But I'm not a specialist, I'm just a girl with her first blackberry. I kinda think of it this way, to me BETA is like an expiremental drug. Would you want to take it not knowing if it will work or if it will have extreme side effects? Or would you just rather wait until they KNOW how it will work? I think I'll wait!

I totally agree.  That's why I'm upset that it's not being offered thru Blackberry link to AT&T.  I'm trying to be patient, but I feel cheated right now, since I can't use Excel on my phone yet.

Jezuzgirl,

Boy you're brave!!!

I second Lorriem's opinion if your carrier doesn't support 4.5 I wouldn't do it. They won't support it.

Fortunately I can wait for Verizon as I have no pressing need for Docs to go or any modifications on 4.5.

I say stand pat, and definitely don't Unite Smiley Happy

Why do you say cheated ? When I got my Blackberry Curve, I knew Excel files would only be opened from email attachments. It's been like that for a whole year at least.

Re: Device Software upgrade for AT&T OS 4.5 for Blackberry Curve 8310 Device

I say cheated, because I thought it would.  I didn't realize until after I bought it that it wouldn't.  I didn't investigate enough.  I had a LifeDrive and it did.  I realize now that it's my fault for not checking it out.  I just assumed it would, since Blackberry has been around for awhile.

Did someone say something about being able to open Excel, if it was an attachment thru email?  How does this work?

Can you read it at least then?

Thanks,

Arah

Tomato lover,

When you get a spreadsheet as an attachment, just click on the attachment and click open.

You will be able to read the spread sheet .

Hope this helps!

I'll add some information :

the spreadsheets you can open from an email attachement must have a .XLS extension. It does not work with .CSV files.

that being said : if the sender want you to read a CSV file, it is possible : the CSV file must be compressed into ZIP.

when you receive the zip file, your Blackberry is able to see the files in it. There, the CSV file will be visible and... when you try and open it, it will be displayed a a simple text (no table cells, just text seperated by ; ).

It can be very useful, espacially when the file is small and you know what you are looking for.

I will later post a message about how to deal with attachments : which ones work or not, under which conditions. Stay tuned.

this question is for nuangel1 and anyone else who used an international version of the 4.5 upgrade. Once you've installed the foreign firmware, does that mean that you have unlocked ur device??
