Do not want to receive email automatically

I want to check email manually instead of having the data pushed to the phone automatically.  I can't seem to find out how to do this...is it possible and if so, how?

turn off the data connection and you wont get email

Delete the email account off the device and use a webmail login.


... Are you aware that a BlackBerry works on PUSH email?

You can log onto your carrier's BIS website and edit the email account for which you don't want to receive email. Then go into the Filters section and set the dot next to the option to not forward any messages. Just remember to do the reverse when you want to start receiving email again

Okay, so I had the same question and none of these answers really helped me, but I think I figured it out.  Go to Setup and then email accounts.  Select the email account you don't want to recieve messages from and then select filters.  you are automaticly set to "forward messages to the device", so change it to "do not forward messages to this device."  It has worked for me so far.  So I can send messages from my phone still, I just don't recieve them, so to do that I need to log on through the browser.  Works for me.
