I'd like to know what functionality I'd have with a blackberry that doesn't have a SIM card.
Will I be able to run all the apps?
Will bluetooth, and other functionality work?
Will it have better battery run times since the Cell transmitter will be off?
Also want to know if this unit has a strong blue tooth signal.

I don't have one. I'm trying to determine which would work best for my needs. I'm thinking an 8800. I just really want good battery power
and a good bluetooth signal.
I'm assuming the trackball and keyboard are the same for the 8800 series.

No, not all applications will work: phone, email, and many more will not work.
A model withe WiFi will work for the browsers ONLY when it is set to HotSpot Browser.
Bluetooth will work without a SIM or Data Plan.
Which model has the strongest BT signal? I don't know, I doubt they vary greatly, but I would recommend a newer model like the 8900 or a 83xx model.
What else do you need to know?

With a SIM card the devcie can run for days with infrequent use (I use one for troubleshooting on calls and it lasts 2-3 days).
The BIGGEST issues with batteyr life is when people use:
Since these are the only two ways you can use the devcie then you have two choices:
- use a devcie with no battery life at all (1 days at most?)
- Use a devcie with a SIM Card on mobile network, disable wifi and bluetooth and get great battery life.
I'm yet to see a BB use all three AND get great battery life with the one battery!

I plan on using it with just the bluetooth. I just want the basic functionality of the phone to work, meaning the keyboard, track ball and basic non-cell phone type functionality to work.
I've seen cellphones in the past that won't even allow access to the basic screen without a SIM, this is why I posed the question.
To OzBBerry42's post: I plan to use the phone strictly with bluetooth. I don't need the wifi. What kind of battery life can I expect? I figure the regular cell radio must take some power, but i plan to have that off.
The phone won't be in constant use, just as a remote, will likely be in stand by for a lot of the time.

hey i was thinking about buying the bold 9700 do you know if it ofperates without a sim card
Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Only on the home CDMA network can a capable BB run without a SIM. Further, given that model does not have a CDMA radio, then the answer becomes completely no.
