Downgrading OS

I want to downgrade my OS. If I am correct this is the procedure:

1. Uninstall device software from pc

2. Install previous version of OS

3. Plug in Blackberry

4. Start desktop manager

5. Downgrade will begin

Is this correct? If it is then I am having issues with the downgrade. Can somebody please help me with this issue?

Re: Downgrading OS

I would check that the software gets removed from c:\program files\common files\research in motion\Shared\Loader Files

Not at my pc to check the path but that is the correct(ish) path i think!

You will also get some stuff in the registry...

HKLM\Software\Research In Motion

(i think)

Re: Downgrading OS

If it doesn't begin, go into the Application Loader to start the downgrade

Look here: http://www.blackberryforums.com/rim-software/1871-blackberryos-4-x-download-faq-upgrade-downloads.ht...

search for "What if I want to downgrade"

Re: Downgrading OS

But that is the correct process for the downgrade.

If it is an OS from another carrier other than the one for which it is branded, be sure to delete the vendor.xml file after installing the lower OS.

Re: Downgrading OS

JSanders, I hace tried those steps numerous time with no luck. I even attempted the suggestions by the previous two people, except for deleting the file from my registry, and once again, no luck. The only thing that I can think is that the OS I downloaded is corrupted and is somehow preventing a downgrade. Any suggestions beside me filing an insurace claim for my device beign stolen?

Re: Downgrading OS

Stolen? You don't even have the device with you? Then it will be impossible to downgrade until you get the device back.

Re: Downgrading OS

I believe s/he was implying that they were going to "lie" to the carrier to receive a replacement.

Re: Downgrading OS

lol...... Thanks Lorrie, that's what I was getting at. I want to downgrade because my browser is constantly freezing on me, I can't properly view web pages and click on links, and everytime I pull my battery to restart after a browser freeze, I lose my phone settings. If I can't figure out how to uninstall this OS I will see if my carrier will replace the device due to software malfunction, or go the insurance route.

Re: Downgrading OS

Another solution would be to wipe the device and start with the OS fresh.

You will need to use JL_Cmder to wipe the device and subsequently load the OS to the device. Follow the instructions here:

http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/How_do_I_wipe_the_BlackBerry_using_Jl_Cmder%3F

If JL_Cmder does not work, follow this instructional:
