Duplicate calendar entries on device after syncing with Outlook

Problem started after I upgraded software on device. First sync after upgrade device wanted to remove all past clalendar items from Outlook. I reync and Outlook added many duplicates. If I delete the duplicates on the device, the next time I synch they are also deleted from Outlook. Fortunately, one copy of those deleted items still lives on the device in most cases. At this point, I can't do a 2-way sync without getting many duplicates. Any suggestions? Thanks.
