I have given my mum my old Blackberry Torch 9800, and can't seem to set up her hotmail email account on it, help please?
Should say I had no problem setting up both my work email and hotmail on the phone, so do I need to so some sort of transfer so its not registered to me. I'd tried to set up the email, and it mentioned an 'activation code' had been sent to me - where would this have been sent?
First, please review and conduct ALL steps in this KB:
KB05099 Steps to take before selling or after buying a previously owned BlackBerry smartphone
Next, avoid anything whatsoever to do with Enterprise...rather, for Hotmail, you need "personal" or "internet" email on that setup screen...if that's not there, then the data account from the mobile service provider is inadequate to enable that service, and you must ring them up to activate it (at whatever fees they require, btw).
Oh...and one more thing...since you had your "work" email on this, was that BES? If so, when you had the BES admin remove it from BES, did they do all the proper steps to cleanse the BB of the IT Policy? For if not, then there is an even additional step that must be done:
KB31291 How to reset a BlackBerry smartphone to factory settings using BlackBerry Desktop Software
And, if in conjunction with this, you do a backup/restore, be sure that on of those IS NOT wholesale and, rather, is a selective restore, restoring only those critical databases (e.g., Contacts, Calendar, etc.) and avoiding specifically any that have anything to do with IT Policy...if you restore those, you'll be right back where you started.
