Email Sync Torch 9800

I'm completely new to Blackberry, so apologise if there is a basic (obvious) answer to my question. I am trying to sync my Torch 9800 to MS Outlook 2010. Emails are showing up on the Torch, but I would expect that when I delete them from Outlook they should also delete from the Torch? And also when I open an item in Outlook, it should appear as opened on the phone? Surely not too much to ask?!

I have looked at the manual and it says go to Blackberry Desktop software, go to Organiser, and work from there. But the only choices I have within Organiser are Calendar, Address Book, MemoPad and Tasks. No email?! I have my calendar and addrress book syncing when I connect perfectly!

Any ideas? Thanks

Re: Email Sync Torch 9800

There are two levels of BlackBerry services: BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service), and BES (BlackBerry Enterprise Service). You obviously have the personal BIS service, which does not reconcile mail and messages to Outlook.

By connecting to the USB cable to your PC and running the Desktop Software, you can sync your contacts, calendar, memos and tasks.

Now, that said, certain IMAP email accounts (such as Gmail) will reconcile deletes and read flags to the email server and to your handheld device, AND then according to how your Outlook 2010 interacts with your email server, you may or may not be able to reconcile those same changes in your messages to your Outlook.

Re: Email Sync Torch 9800

Well, actually, as I said, it does. BES service.

Re: Email Sync Torch 9800

I agree with mikedenny and am also new to blackberry.

If I have understood this correctly, there is no sync for pop and smtp Outlook email available.

Please confirm!

If so I too am completely amazed. I had kind of assumed that that was basic functionality.

Otherwise I have to get an exchange server set up to get manag my emails efficiently.

Out of interest does iPhone sync emails.

I was told Blarckberry is the business tool  and especially good for email and iphone is more of a gadet.

Re: Email Sync Torch 9800

Hello-

I am new to Blackberry as well, but have the same problem, only with Gmail.  It appears from this thread that I should not be having any such difficulty, but I am still having to manually delete mails already deleted from my laptop.  My Torch is not reconciling my Gmail automatically; in fact, when I go to the menu in email to manually reconcile by selecting that command, it still doesn't work.

Please let me know what I'm missing, as I have no idea what else to try.

Thanks!
