i use a bold 9700 and i too have fallen foul of the email update.
i was on v6.0.0534 platform 126.96.36.199. the email update led to a crash and freeze requiring the reinstallation of the OS.
I too used a mac and BB desktop to reinstall ALL!! the languages and input (you'll see it in the applications list on BB desktop) once these were installed. I tried email setup again. Again it promted the update and this time installed with no hitch. it does require a reboot after and its takes a while.
now email setup works and you can edit accounts like before.
now to remove those languages i dont need!!

I am yet another customer who was being driven mad with this situation. I reinstalled V6 onto my bb torch 5 times trying to find a way to set up my email. Each time the email setup wanted to install the upgrade and each time it failed.....until I switched OFF my wifi and then the software was delivered via 02 and then it worked!!! Yippeeeeee . Hope this works for you too,
