End of my tether!

Hi Guys


I have been given a curve 9320 and love it, BUT, it's starting to drive me nuts! I have today "investigated" loading software onto my laptop so that I can move some music and pictures from it onto my phone, and have gone through the Blackberry site, found what I think is the right software and gone through the download, only to need to input a password......now I have used 9 of the 10 lives and I've used the password to Balckberry world, the password to unlock the phone, the SIM password and even my email and facebook passwords, but I have NO clue what on earth it can be?


The phone had been restored to it's original settings when I had it, so I can't see that it's a stored password, but I'm getting right cranky with it, can somebody please help me out and explain what password it can be?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!


First: If you know how to enter the password on the device keyboard, then disconnect from the PC now and do so...the counter is the same for both, so doing so will get you back to 10 more chances. Otherwise, failing the 10th time via the Desktop Software will result the same as failing on the device -- a complete device WIPE.




After that is reset...then you can proceed more safely...



  • You installed the BlackBerry Desktop Software to your computer


  • You are activating Mass Storage Mode to conduct the file transfer


  • The device has a device lock password assigned


The password prompted for by the Desktop Software and the password you assigned to lock your BB are indeed the same password. It is not your BBID, AppWorld, nor any other credential -- it is the user-created device lock password, required on the device anytime it is rebooted or otherwise has been password-locked. So, what I suspect is that you've got a mixture of different characters in your device password, and perhaps have not noticed how you must enter those on the BB keyboard. For instance, if your password is

  • ab123

and you enter

  • a > b > ALT > 1 > 2 > 3

the actual result will be

  • ab1er

You must enter

  • a > b > ALT > 1 > ALT > 2 > ALT > 3

in order to wind up with ab123. So, in this example, while on the BB keyboard you think you are typing ab123, you are actually typing ab1er.

On your BB, when you type your password, you should get just a moment where each character is shown in the clear before it changes to an *. Watch closely the next time and you may see a surprising result. It will be those exact characters that you must type on your PC keyboard as that's actually your password.
