Error Message When Trying to Use Phone As Modem

I have a BlackBerry Curve 9330 and use it to get online with my laptop. Recently I've been getting a connection failed message saying the specified port is not open when trying to connect. I have not changed my computer settings and do not know what to do about this aggravating problem.
