Europe no email downloads on 2G or 3G

I am using a 9800 torch since Nov 2010, have a UK contract with vodafone and travel a lot in continental Europe. I have been using blackberries (various models) over past 9 years, so well used to them.

In UK,  torch working fine and emails coming in with no delay (except internet connections very slow and often do not connect.  If I go on 3G in UK, device usually paralyses and does not download anything.)

however, have noted that am mostly on EDGE connection in UK whereas in Europe (CH, I, FR and GER) connection mostly 2G or 3G. In FR, CH, GER and Italy I can still do calls, SMS and headers/subject lines of emails do come on to device but cannot download the whole email when requesting "more/more all"

is this a problem with the torch that it cannot handle 3G/2G or am I doing something wrong?

i have noted other entries on this site re 2G and 3G connections. any advice?

Re: Europe no email downloads on 2G or 3G

When you're traveling, your data is roaming, and it could be (but shouldn't be) that the network is having difficulty identifying your device on the network. I'm just not sure.

If I were you, when you're back in your home area, I'd do a SIM swap at your local service provider retail store. Sometimes, often, a SIM can make a difference. Try that first.

I really don't think it is hardware related.
