I have a Cuve 9360, got it about Jun / July 2012. I did the software update v18.104.22.1686 Platform 22.214.171.124 - All kinds of stuff started from there.
First it didnt want to load, the update kept failing and hanging at a certain % of completion. My phone was out or order for two weeks so i just chucked it in my handbag, and eventually I went to Cape Town and heard beep beep in my bag, phone did the download - great! Since then, Whatsapp freezes, BBM messages dont come in and wont go out to contacts. People say my phone rings and rings and i dont answer, testing it the phone rings in my ear from another phone, but doesnt even show an incoming call or a missed call infront of me (I thought i was so blond i got the number wrong so checked that too Trying to go into app world freezes the phone and it just hangs showing the please wait pop-up. Take the battery out and put it back with a hard re-boot, works fine till you want to send your first bbm or whatsapp - Its not the network, I have been using another BB (Bold something) and everything works perfect on that phone no problems
Very frustrated and i want to make a submarine out of this freaking thing, please help!

From all you describe, I suspect something did not go well with that OS update...and a clean reload is in order to try and cure your issues.
At the top of each device forum, there should be some "sticky" threads that discuss the OS levels available for many models. If they include your model, then please use those as reference as you proceed. Otherwise, you will have to dig through the official download portal for OS packages for your model:
From a PC, you can install any compatible (e.g., for your exact BB Model Number) OS package to a BB via this procedure:
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC. If that OS package is from a carrier other than the carrier for which your BB was originally manufactured, then delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:
