Hi all, I tried to check out the FAQ before posting this question but they don't appear to be working right now.
I've had my Storm for a little over a week and the screen completely froze and became scrambled while sending a text message. I rebooted the Storm by plugging it in to the charger and now it won't even load back up. I received an error message once, which then froze the screen again. After this, I tried rebooting again and it just brings up the Verizon wireless screen (sometimes scrambled, as well).
Is there a way to fix this problem without doing a hard reset (and losing all of my data)?

Leave the device to charge 2-3 hours, and then, still connected to the USB cable, remove the the battery from the device a few seconds and reinsert it. If it boots--leave it to charge to 100% (check Options > Status for the percentage).
If it doesn't boot--try using a wall outlet charger if you are not. If you are connected via USB to the PC, make certain that you have Desktop Manager (or the USB device drivers) installed, which you can download below.
Make certain your USB cable is connected to one of the PC's main rear USB ports. Not a USB hub, nor a monitor USB port, nor a USB port on the front of the PC.
Download Desktop Manager from here:

Thanks, I'll try that. It's charging now.
Also, no information was included from Verizon on how to remove the hard cover case I have on my Storm. Is it just a simple click and lift that I'm not figuring out?
In the event that this fails, it's been less than 15 days since I purchased the device. Should I either call Verizon to have the phone fixed/replaced under manufacturer's warranty or should I try to buy the insurance?
