HELP! Desktop Manager is not letting my BB connect

I've never had this problem with the desktop manager before but the at the bottom of the screen the "connecting" wheel thing just keeps on turning round and round and is not recognizing my device, meaning I am not able to backup my BB.

Also, with my other device on another PC, the back up keeps on freezing on "SmartCard Options" and then not finishing the backup.

Please perform a hard reboot of your PC (full power down and power up, not the "reboot" selection). Also perform a proper batt-pull reboot of your BB (power ON, remove battery, wait, insert battery, wait 15m before trying anything further).

This KB discusses that problem:

  • KB29522 "Error backing up databases" message is generated at Smart Card Options database when backing up the BlackBerry smartphone using the BlackBerry Desktop Software

 

There also is, just in the last few days, the 7.0 version of the Desktop Software released:

ive seen this problem before, try unplugging your device from the pc and then reconnecting it again. BB desktop software 7.1 is being released in the next few weeks so when that gets put out to the general public, download it and you should find it will fix the problem.
