Btw just got THIS message, whe I tried (for the 80th time) to register at chinamobile.blackberry.com:
"Cannot Create Account: An Account Already Exists for this Blackberry Device. Please log in or contact China Mobile at 10086 or email@example.com."
So I checked w my friend who sent me the phone (iphone 5 traitor). He said that he switched his old service (the one I have now) to his new bberry bold.
Anyone have ideas here?

Yes, I think it is associated with BIS. I already received registration emails. Also, service status shows BIS Connection as "WiFi." Does that mean that it is all set up with BIS?
And yes Ive already done a full security wipe.
It is a used phone, so I reached out to my friend who gave me the phone, before I unlocked it. (Btw tested all the unlock settings and it looks like that was done successfully too). I asked my friend what he did w his old service/Pin, and he explained that he brought it over to his newer Bold.

So, you can connect to the BIS plan via WiFi, but if WiFi is turned off, you cannot connect via the mobile network. Odd.
Please check your Manage Connection screen > Mobile Network. Look at the Network Technology or Network Selection Mode (I forget which on a GSM model) and try setting the device to 2G only (not 3G), do you have that choice?
Do thinks like BBM work correctly? Can you BBM chat with a friend and receive a reply?
PIN messaging? If need to test, send me another private message here with your device PIN.
Finally, at Options > BlackBerryID, have you logged in to your BlackBerryID there?
