Help Dekstop Manager: installation files cannot be verified

when I try to install I get: installation files cannot be verified. Please verify the installer package and try again.

My system: XP SP3.

Now I have googled, checked this forum and tried all the suggestions (install certificates via IE, directly, in the installer package etc. etc.) that were available, but I still get the same error.

How is it possible that RIM can't make a installer package that simply works out of the box. It is shameful that users should go through the trouble of all these additional steps, which in the end still don't work...

Any new suggestions to fix this issue? Any change that RIM will produce a decent installer package ...

Re: Help Dekstop Manager: installation files cannot be verified

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

Sorry, but from what you say, I cannot tell if you went through ALL that is in this KB...there is more than just the certificates to consider:

  • KB28396 When installing the BlackBerry Desktop software the following error is received "The installation files cannot be validated. Please verify the installer package and try again."

Hopefully it contains something useful!

Actually, most of the causes in that KB have nothing to do with anything under RIMs control...the PC is an "open system", allowing users and other apps to cause interference to other things.  But, that is outside of what RIM can control with their installer package. This is, notably, in contrast to how other platforms work...for instance, the Apple platform is a "closed system" where (for the most part) neither apps nor users can do things that are outside of certain boundaries. It's just not that way with the PC...likely never will be. But the "fault" (if such is needed) lies not with RIM...rather, with MicroSoft for having such an "open system".

Good luck and let us know!

Re: Help Dekstop Manager: installation files cannot be verified

I just checked the msi and setup files and studied the certificates;

both of them state that:

One of the counter signatures is not valid. The file may have been altered.

Now i am not a technician, but why should I have to care? I have never experienced this with any software installer.

Well enough complaining. Can someone explain what I should do next?

BTW I do all the actions/installing with admin rights, just in case

Re: Help Dekstop Manager: installation files cannot be verified

Where did you obtain the installation file? If not from the official download portal, then please start over with that:

You may also wish to try prior versions, just in case those might help:

Alternatively, you might want to do a totally clean start over...to do so, I suggest this thread:

It starts with a process for cleanly starting over, and there is some discussion, and there is also a post (15) with links to older Desktop Software versions, if those are needed. Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having.

Good luck!

Re: Help Dekstop Manager: installation files cannot be verified

Just a thought, are you logged in with administrator privileges when you receive this error? I often have similar issues installing software after dropping my regular login account to standard user level (also running XP SP3). In my case, it was deliberate to prevent some malware from taking control. I log in as administrator for maintenance and special tasks, then switch back to a conventional user environment for routine use.
