Help with Blackberry Curve Display Problem

My Blackberry Curve is 15 months old and the display has failed. My screen had a lot of horizontal lines- making reading impossible and when I restarted it- it is blank.  There is no damage- by water or otherwise.

Unfortunately, after the first 12 months it is no longer under warranty, per AT&T. Did anyone have a similar experience. Is this a problem with this model? Is there any solution? Is there an economic way of repairing the device?

I am a little disappointed that I paid $ 200 and 15 months later the phone is out of use.

I am sure there is some expert out there who can offer a solution. Please help!

Thanks, Chris

Re: Help with Blackberry Curve Display Problem

Greetings, and welcome to the BlackBerry.com Support Forums.

Quite honestly, that does sound like moisture damage, even if the white sticker in the battery area doesn't indicate it. I know, I have seen a few moisture damaged like this.

You can replace the LCD screen, check with Horizon in my signature below.

Re: Help with Blackberry Curve Display Problem

I have had a similiar experience.  The other day while I was at work I sent a message via my blackberry.  A few hours later I picked my phone up from my purse (where it was left untouched for several hours).  The screen was completely gone; just lines down through.  Nothing will get the screen back and my carrier is saying I broke it, but I would swear on my life my phone was not touched between the times I sent the message and picked it up again.  My husband (who has a twin phone purchased the same time) has had his screen go funny a few times, but it has always come back whereas mine is permanantly disabled.  I really believe this is a defect.  I will have to pay for these repairs but feel unjustly accused.  Has anyone else experienced this???

Re: Help with Blackberry Curve Display Problem

Just had the same thing happen.

No moisture damage, no physical damage.

My phone is only about 2 months old...I'm hoping they can do something about it or replace it.

I too have the same problem and my phone is around 17 months old, and it's model is curve 9300.

I dont know i was using my phone when suddenly the backlight started getting light and dark, colourfull dots, horizontal lines, which come and go depending on my blackberry mobile's mood Smiley Indifferent it's really disturbing.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

Best!
