Help with recovering data

So I bought a blackberry last week, and it already got dropped in water by a friend. As I go to turn it on now, everything works, except the keypad, side buttons, and the ability to click the ball. So as I turn it on I recieve three text messages I was waiting for, but now I can't click on the messages icon, and when I ran a backup with desktop manager and opened it in ABC Amber, and it has all of my old text messages, but all it has for the three I just recieved is this:

453 Error Invalid Number. Please re-send using a valid 10 digit mobile number or valid short code. 060504000015CC60D99B56EE19B960C593462C5C316A0000

Is there anyway I will be able to retrieve these messages?

Re: Help with recovering data

It's probably sending crazy messages due to the water damage.  If it were me, I'd remove the battery and let the device dry out a couple of days.  Drop it in a bag of uncooked rice or put it inside of a warm stereo cabinet.  It will likely be ok.  The more you use it, the more you risk losing the whole device.

Re: Help with recovering data

I went through the *.ipd file in notepad and found that it looks like it was sending crazy texts. As for the rest of the phone, it barely started when it first got wet, didn't start at all in the morning, by the afternoon the red LED would come on, and now this evening it will turn on, so if things keep going this way I hopefully won't have to buy a new phone.

Re: Help with recovering data

If you remove the battery, and let the device dry out for a day or two in a warm location or in a bag of uncooked rice, you can save it.  It probably just has some moisture in the keypad.  It's saveable if you try.

Re: Help with recovering data

Water soaked device need to be dried properly before putting the battery in. This is a must. If doing so as mentioned by John doesn't solve your problem then start thinking about a new a one. Sad story though! Smiley Sad

Re: Help with recovering data

So, I went through AT&T and saw that the messages I recieved were just a result of the phone going crazy. Now my question is: How do I wipe and reload the OS? I have read a couple stories of this working for fixing problems with the buttons not working.

Re: Help with recovering data

You're not listening/reading the posts.  You have a hardware problem.  It cannot be solved by reloading the software.  There is water/moisture in the keyboard contacts.  Once the water dries out the problem will most likely go away if you'll follow the instructions I've posted above.  You need to remove the battery and NOT USE the BB for a day or two while it dries out.  If you continue to use it you risk losing the entire device.  Reloading the OS at the point is NOT what needs to be done.
