Well, "restart" has several different meanings to different folks...but since you are comparing to the batt-pull reboot, we'll go with that as your desire. The only other way to accomplish this is to use an app called QuickPull...it simulates a batt-pull reboot without requiring the physical removal of the battery.
Hope that helps!

Thanks for the help! The reason I'm asking is because I updated my software for one of my 3rd party apps and in order to totally erase the old app I have to RESTART my phone. Turning the phone on and off has not been the answer so I assume that pulling the battery is the only other alternative, or is it?

You can also open the phone app and dial ##000000. Scroll down to the password input and type in vzw. Press the BB button and select save. The phone will reboot without having to remove the battery.

does Not Work on BB Devices ANYMORE
They Are Not Compatible with the 5.0 Software
I removed Mine Last month
Not completely accurate. Steelthorn has a Beta version (Beta2 last time I looked) that is reported to work with v5.0 non-BES BB's...they continue to work toward a solution for BES-activated BB's.
