How do I verify my network connections?

i have just got a reconditioned BB torch after my previous one couldnt be repaired. I have set it up fine, except when I try to log in to BB App world it says it is having trouble connecting to the BB App world server, Verify your network connections and try again.

 

I have forgotten my pass word for BB Aps and am trying to get a new one sent to email, but I cant get past this.

 

Can any one tell me how to do this/

Are you checking for the BlackBerry ID password reset email from your email account via computer?

For security reasons, the reset email will not be delivered to the BlackBerry smartphone.

If you are still unable to receive the password reset email, make sure the message is not being filtered.
