How do I

[ Edited ]

How do I assign different ringtones for each contact for text messages?  When I go to contacts, select a contact, edit, assign a ringtone under messages and save I still get the same ringtone for everyone when I get texts.  What am I doing wrong?  From what i've read it sounds like that is all I should have to do, am I missing something?

Thanks

Re: How do I

Hi and welcome to the forums!

Try this:

Add a contact alert

You can create contact alerts that allow you to customize ring tones and alerts for calls and messages from specific contacts or groups of contacts. When you receive a call or message from the contact, your BlackBerry® device uses the assigned ring tone or alert, even if you select the Silent profile or Vibrate Only profile. If you do not want to be notified with the assigned ring tone or alert, you can select the All Alerts Off profile.

  1. On the Home screen, click the Sound and Alert Profiles icon.
  2. Click Change Sounds and Alerts > Sounds for Contacts > Add Contact Alert.
  3. In the Name field, type the name of the contact alert.
  4. In the Contacts field, type the name of the contact.
  5. Click a contact.
  6. Change the ring tone and alert information for calls and messages.
  7. Press the Image of the Menu key key > Save.

Thanks,

Re: How do I

I have done that, and still the same ring tone for all text messages keeps playing. It is the ringtone I have set when i go to change sounds and alerts. I touch change sounds and alerts, sounds for selected profile, messages, text messages and have my rinngtone selected, assuming that that one should be for contacts whom I have not specified a ringtone for.  But I still can't get specific ones for specific people.

Thanks for all the help!

Re: How do I

Yep, yep, understood that's what you're doing.

Do a simple reboot on the BlackBerry and see if the customized message tones work correctly.

With the BlackBerry device POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery to reboot. A reboot in this manner is prescirbed for most gltiches and operating system errors, and you will lose no data on the device doing this.

Re: How do I

Hi,

The best recommendation is to follow the steps listed above making sure to use "the sounds for contacts" option.

Thanks,
