Re: How to connect to BBM through wi-fi without activating mobile network ?

Changing browser configuration from WAP to Hotspot isnt really a solution. this has got nothing to do with BBM.

I'm using most of the applications like facebook, whatapp on WiFi without having a data plan. when i try to connect BBM, I'm getting a message "A temporary BBM server error has occurred".

It seems that BBM needs an active data plan from blackberry to work over Wifi. I'm yet to find a workaround.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

BBM and often the browser both require subscription to a BB-level data plan from a carrier, even if you only use the services via WiFi. BBM and other services are proprietary to BBs only, and that additional plan is required to enable those services. Not that this applies only to legacy devices...new BB10 devices do not require BIS in order to provide the BB proprietary services.

Good luck!

Re: How to connect to BBM through wi-fi without activating mobile network ?

This makes no sense to me. Why you need a data plan to access BBM through wifi. Doesn't having a data plan kinda defeat the purpose of using wifi. I don't have a data plan because I want to use only wifi and I'm hearing from you I can't. This is upsetting and wrong. This is the only phone I've ever had that requires this and the reason is simple, self explainatory.

Re: How to connect to BBM through wi-fi without activating mobile network ?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

The older legacy BBOS devices (such as your Bold 9780) all require a proper BIS-level data plan from a carrier in order to enable the proprietary BB services, which include email, BBM, BBWorld, BB Protect, and many other things. On some device OS levels, you can use the Browser via WiFi only, but NOT the other proprietary services. Those services are all using infrastructure hosted by the carriers and BB, and therefore they require a higher service plan from a carrier in order to enable them, even if the usage of them is desired to be via WiFi only. The cost for that plan, however, is 100% at the discretion of the carrier...there are some carriers that provide the BIS add-on at no extra cost, and there are other carriers that charge extra for it. It is their choice what to do...they control their markets, BB does not.

With the newer BB10 devices, no special data plan is required in order to access ALL proprietary BB services.

Hope that helps.
