How to restore missing display (and voice recognition) languages?

I need German language voice recognition my 8820.
It was deleted by the Setup Wizard during initial setup.
The 8820 user guide says:
>>
Add or delete a display language
See the  BlackBerry Desktop Software Online Help for more information about adding and deleting applications, including display
languages, using the application loader tool of the BlackBerry® Desktop Manager.
<<
However, the online help of the BlackBerry Desktop Software delivered with the unit (4.2.2) doesn't say anything about this, and the application loader contains nothing about languages.
How can I get the  German language back?

Re: How to restore missing display (and voice recognition) languages?

No, the list contains no languages at all, only applications, as one would expect.

Curiously enoug, although most of the content on the BB8820 is in English, there are 2 entries in Spanish in the Profiles - Advanced menu.

Hi,

I would suggest going to the carrier site and download the device OS you have to the PC.

You can then use the application loader to restore.

Thanks for the suggestion, it worked!

Unfortunately, it also removed the "Maps" application from my BB, even though I left it checked.

How can I get it back?

Re: How to restore missing display (and voice recognition) languages?

Hi,

You can load an older version from here:

http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB05469&sliceId=SAL_Pub...

I don't know if it will be compatible. I would go with Google maps, it's free and has better features.

Thanks,

Re: How to restore missing display (and voice recognition) languages?

I was able to download and install Blackberry maps from www.blackberry.com/maps.  I got the URL from a colleague's BB where the application was still available.  The download installs directly, rather than downloading a package to install with the application loader.  This is kind of a pain, because it took several attempts to get a complete download.  The installation hung a few times at around 15% complete, sometimes complaining about loss of internet connection, sometimes complaining about lost connect to the BB, and sometimes just sitting ther doing nothing until I lost patience and killed  it.

Re: How to restore missing display (and voice recognition) languages?

Sorry my post above wasn't clearer.  After several tries, the download and installation succeeded.

I now have BlackBerry maps running again on my BB 8820.

BTW, the URL you posted and the one I posted ultimately lead to the same download page.

Thanks for your help!
