Does anybody can provide me the detailed instructions on how to unlock a BB 9000 device? I'm new to this stuff, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Or you can contact the carrier that the phone is locked to and see if they can provide the unlock code for free

First you need to purchase the Unlock Code for your BlackBerry bold 9000 from a trusted Vendor
Instructions for unlocking Blackberry 9000 Bold
1. Ensure a SIM Card is inserted
2. Go to 'Manage Connections'
3. Click on 'Turn All Connections Off'
4. Go to 'Options'
5. Click on 'Advanced Options'
6. Click on 'SIM Card'
7. Type 'MEPD' (letters will not appear on-screen but a menu will pop up.)
8. Type 'MEP2' (user will be prompted to enter MEP code)
9. Enter the MEP2 code (CONFIRM you get "Code Accepted" message)
i. *If you also have a MEP4 code, type 'MEP4' (you will be prompted to enter MEP code)
ii. Enter the MEP4 code (CONFIRM you get "Code Accepted" message)
10. Reboot device
11. Go to 'Manage Connections'
12. Click on 'Restore Connections'
13. Device is now unlocked

here are the instructions to unlock the phone.
1 - Switch on your Blackberry 9000 without any sim card.
2 - Turn on the phone and Go to Manage Connections and select Turn off all connections. All The wireless connections will be turned off.
3 - Go to Options.
4 - Select Advanced Options.
5 - Select SIM Card.
6 - Press the following keys in order: (M) (E) (P) (E)
7 - A prompt will appear asking for the unlock code.
8 - Reboot your device.
9 - Re-enable the cellular radio

The guides above are ok however they are for entering the code. I take it you want to know how to get the mep code to work out your personal unlock code? If so then you need to read this info from your phone either using a cable or via the menu. There is a step by step guide to each one on the link below.
