How to use Wifi only?

How can I make my Blackbery Bold 9700 always use Wifi for data transfer?

I have set my conection settings to 2G only with data transfer off.

The Wifi is completely set up.

When I try to open the internet browser I get a unable to connect message.

The Wifi shows in green on the connection overview but does not give the green "v" symbol on the right.

When I switch on the data transfer in the setup the internet works just fine but I get a huge bill at the end of the month for data use via my mobile connection.

Please help me get my Wifi use set up correctly.

Re: How to use Wifi only?

Did you read the manual?

Quote:

"If you have a Wi-Fi® enabled device and if you are in a Wi-Fi coverage area, you can log in to a Wi-Fi access point and use the Hotspot Browser
to browse web pages. If your device is associated with an email account that uses a BlackBerry Enterprise Server, your organization might
prevent the Hotspot Browser from appearing, or might restrict you from using the Hotspot browser to browse web pages.
Set the default browser configuration
1. On the Home screen or in a folder, click the Options icon.
2. Click Advanced Options.
3. Click Browser.
4. Set the Default browser configuration field.
5. Press the Menu key.
6. Click Save."

End of Quote

That should do the trick, if your WiFi is configured properly.

Good luck!

1. Turn your Data Services to ON, otherwise, ... you get no data, including Wifi Data.

2. If your WiFi is on, and connected to your WiFi router, the data will ALWAYS prefer and use the WiFi connection, not your mobile wireless network connection.

You can ensure this is WiFi only, by going to your Manage Connections screen and turn off the Mobile Network, and leaving WiFi enabled.

Re: How to use Wifi only?

Okay, I believe this might be the answer I was looking for.

I allready feared that disabling the data connection included Wifi data. But permanently disabling GPRS costs me €15,- at my t-mobile provider. This probably means that I'll have to stay carefull when using the internet on my Blackberry. Since I expect to see no difference between a Wifi- and a GPRS connection.

Thanks for the replies!
